PILF DEI WORKING GROUP
Working Group Mission
The PILF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group is committed to fostering a community of anti-racist and anti-oppressive lawyering at BC Law and the legal profession at large. The Group, open to all in the BC Law Community and facilitated by 2 PILF Co-Chairs, will work to promote racial justice within PILF, at BC Law, and in the legal community. The PILF DEI Working Group will ensure that PILF leverages its institutional and financial resources to advance anti-racist work, and it will hold PILF accountable to working towards becoming an anti-racist multicultural organization within BC Law; to peer organizations and college initiatives; and to social justice activist voices.
“The opposite of racist isn't 'not racist.' It is 'anti-racist.' What's the difference? One endorses either the idea of a racial hierarchy as a racist, or racial equality as an anti-racist. One either believes problems are rooted in groups of people, as a racist, or locates the roots of problems in power and policies, as an anti-racist. One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an anti-racist. There is no in-between safe space of 'not racist.”
